James Peter Tasso, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins, Utah, of natural causes. He was born May 3, 1921, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to James Peter Tasso and Margherita Maria Silva. Jim was raised on a farm in Clifton, Idaho, where he learned the value of hard work. He graduated from Utah State University and completed the ROTC program. He served our country in combat during WWII in the European Theatre. Following the war, he attended the University of Utah where he met and married his sweetheart Ethella (Susie) Mitchell from Centerville, Utah, on March 15, 1957, in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Jim also served at the Pentagon during the Korean Conflict and in the reserves after the Conflict. He was a partner and manager of title insurance companies in four counties of Southern Idaho. Jim also served in various LDS church positions.

Jim loved scouting. He was an Eagle Scout and an active advocate for the scouting program serving as scout master and as scout executive. Jim also loved to hunt, fish, and cook. He had a great sense of humor. Jim and Susie enjoyed traveling to visit their children all around the world. He was a loving husband and father. He will be deeply missed by all.

He is survived by his wife Susie of 57 years; his eight children: Mark (Joey), Eric, Laurie (Scott) Swain, Kent (Stephanie), Heidi, Jon (Jennifer), Jamie (Jason) Lee, Andrea (Eric) Taylor; and his sister Norma Rasmussen. They have 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, and a daughter-in-law.

The family appreciates the staff at Spring Gardens, Southern Utah Veterans Home, and Journey of Hope Hospice for their kind care to Jim and for the support they gave Susie.

A viewing will be held Friday, June 20, 2014, from 12:30-1:30 pm with a service following at 2 pm at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, Saint George, Utah. Interment will follow immediately after at the Tonaquint Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southern Utah Veterans Home, 160 North 200 East, Ivins, Utah 84738.
