Lee Richard Warren

St. George

Lee Richard Warren passed away January 30, 2014. He was born September 4, 1918 in Price, Utah to Vernal and Rosie Milano Warren. In 1942, he married Eileen Bernard in Newport, RI.

Lee served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was also a survivor of Pearl Harbor. His ship, the McDonough, was responsible for shooting down a Japanese Mig.

He loved his country and his flag; and he participated in flag programs and placing flags in Utah and California.

He was known as the "Flag Man." In 1963 he started the Give a Kid a Flag program while he was president of the Exchange Club of Burlingame California. He also served as President of the Exchange Clubs in California, Nevada and Hawaii. He earned his land and water pilot's license and enjoyed flying.

Lee worked in the Food and Beverage industry in the San Francisco area for 42 years - owning and operating several Lounge and Cocktail Restaurants for 41 of those years. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, the V.F.W., the American Legion, Pearl Harbor Survivors and a faithful member and greeter of the St. George Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eileen; daughter, Sandra Lee, and two brothers, Vern and Bob Warren. He is survived by his granddaughter, Diana Lee; two great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his devoted niece Cathy & Enrique and his many beloved friends: Dick & Florie, Beth & Egor, Pat & Dave, Kim & Dev, Eleanor, and Bob. A special thanks is also given to Sun River Retreat staff and Horizon Hospice team.

A Catholic Mass will be held Monday, February 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George Catholic Church located at 259 West 200 North. A visitation will be held Monday, prior to services, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Interment will follow in the Tonaquint Cemetery.
