BROUGHTON, JOAN MARIE After a beautiful life filled with love, music and laughter Joan passed away peacefully in Meaford, Ontario, on December 13, 2018. Joan was born in Lance Cove on Bell Island, Newfoundland. She was the youngest daughter of Mary and Patrick Kent, cherished sister to Gordon (Catherine), Bob (Kate), Don (Ursula), Myles (Carol) and Marguerite White. (Doug). Beloved wife to her soulmate, Joan married the love of her life, Lynn. Always together, they really were two peas in a pod. Joan and Lynn's life spanned New Toronto, Mississauga and then to Thornbury where they enjoyed what Joan would call "a life of leisure" in their retirement years. Adored mother of son Colin (Sheryl) and daughter JoAnne (Steve), Joan both fiercely loved and protected her children with an unbelievable passion, kindness and generosity. She taught them unconditional love and how to put family above all else. As long as you did not sit on her 'good' couch. A dedicated wife, a wonderful mother, Joan also had an extensive and successful career which began in New Toronto at Goodyear Canada. She then worked at Victorian Order of Nurses and Spectrum Healthcare, dedicating herself to helping others. Joan worked tirelessly and was loved by everyone she ever worked with. Joan's love of piping hot coffee, Oil of Olay, garage sales and dancing around the house to her favourite Elvis Presley song, was surpassed only by the love she had for her grandchildren. She treasured and spoiled Emily, Hailey (Arvin), Jacob, Devon, Camryn and Jackson. It would be unheard of if the kids left Nanny's house empty handed. "They are taking it home, I told them they could have it." Her grandchildren were everything to Joan. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private family service to celebrate the life of this beautiful woman. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish to send a memorial donation to The Alzheimer Society or send a message of condolence may contact the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
