EDWIN MATTHEWS Obituary

EDWIN HENRY MATTHEWS 90 - Peacefully, on May 3, 2014 at the Princess Gardens Retirement Residence. Predeceased by Barbara, his adored wife of almost 62 years and by his parents Joseph and Femi and sister Jean. Proud father and father-in-law of Ted and Marsha, Marty and Mari, Diana and Steve Carter. Edwin leaves 8 grandchildren: Morgan (Stephanie) Toronto; Megan, New York; Alison, Arizona; Davis, Quinn, Reed, California; Lisa (Warren Killingbeck) and Kevin, Peterborough. Loving great-grandfather to Hailey, Addyson and Sadie. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at Princess Gardens Retirement Residence and give heartfelt thanks to Christine Sanders, Edwin's Inner Freedom Ministries Overseer, for her compassion and companionship over the past five years. Edwin was the founder and creative force behind Delmar Studios, co-founder of Promanad Communications. An acclaimed landscape painter, painting instructor, Edwin was a member of the Ontario Society of Artists. Edwin and Barbara were the founders and inspiration behind the Gallery on the Lake and the Buckhorn Wildlife Art Festival. Recipient of the Governor General of Ontario's Citizenship Award, Peterborough's Citizen of the Year and Rotary International's highest award for lifetime service. A small celebration of Edwin's life will be held at Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough. Service Tuesday, May 6th, 11 a.m., reception follows. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Link to Google Map: http://ow.ly/wszo0

I was saddened to read of your father's passing, but the notice reminded me of the long, giving and rewarding life he enjoyed. I hope you two are well. It's been a long time since the fun days at Promanad.

Dear Ted, Marty and Diana, I have fond memories of times at Eel's Lake, which involved the three of you, other young people and their parents. I'm sorry that your dad died (and your mom) but you will have many happy memories, as do I. Sincerely, Pat (Gough) Belchamber.
