Funeral services for Mr. Roy Hughes, 89, of Winnfield, will be held Tuesday November 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. in The Family Church, Winnfield, La. Services will be conducted by nephew William Hughes Jr, and Bro. Joel Hines.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 25, 2013 from 5p.m. until 10p.m. at the church, and Tuesday morning November 26, 2013 from 8 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow in the Mill Creek Cemetery, Saline, La. under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield.

Mr. Hughes passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 in his residence surrounded by his family. He was born November 10, 1924 in Natchitoches Parish. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He will be remembered by many for servicing water well pumps, as well as being known as the "watermelon man" and the "can man."

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Hughes and Maggie Martin Hughes. Brothers, H.C. Hughes and William "Bud' Hughes. Sisters Hazel Hughes Smith and Mildred Hughes White. Great grandson, Douglas Thompson Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Hughes Slayter, of Dry Prong; Grandchildren, Kimberly M. Bruce, Shani Fallis and husband Duane, Brandon Slayter and wife Jennifer, all of Winnfield; and Lance Bartley and wife Brittney of Nacogdoches, Texas; Great Grandchildren, Megan Glenn and husband Brian, Dylan Bruce, Billie Thompson, Brady Fallis, Savannah Spangler, Braxton Slayter, Carlie Rhea Slayter, Luke James, and Jade Bartley; Great- Great grandson, Peyton James Glenn; Son-n-law, Michael Slayter; Brother, Marvin J Hughes, of Alexandria, La. and Numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Slayter, Dylan Bruce, Brian Glenn, Duane Fallis, Robert Foster, Lance Bartley, Herbert Bruce, and Chance Guilliams

Honorary pallbearers will be Braxton Slayter, Peyton James Glenn, Brady Fallis, Luke James, Michael Slayter, Dr. L.R. Collier, and Roger Shelton.
