Gloria Petersen Obituary
Gloria Rose (Piper) Petersen passed away December 23, 2012 at LifeCare Center of Longmont. She was 83. Gloria was born July 28, 1929 in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to George Frank and Julia Theresa (Sannes) Piper. She grew up in Tomahawk and graduated from Tomahawk High School. Gloria attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin before transferring and graduating from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. She worked as a personnel assistant at Hopkins before moving to San Francisco. She married Russell Petersen in November of 1958. Gloria worked for the University of California in Berkley as a personnel assistant before moving to Boulder in 1961 and working for the Boulder County School systems as a special education assistant. In 1999 Gloria moved to Longmont. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont and was a charter member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Boulder. She was involved in Stephen ministries and also belonged to the Kappa Delta sorority. Gloria loved her family, being with them was very important to her. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell in 1983; her parents; two brothers George and Roland Piper; and two sisters Florence Leverance and Dorothy Schleife. Gloria is survived by her two daughters Kristie McLeod and Cheryl (Mike) Engles; three grandchildren Greg McLeod, Karlin McLeod, and Joey Petersen; and two step-grandchildren Ashley Engles-Green and Cheyenne Engles. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday December 27, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont. Interment at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.
