Alvin P. Shane Sr., 78, passed away on May 2, 2021 at his home in Vallejo.Alvin was born on January 11, 1943 in Lincoln, CA, to Ephrom and Minnie Evelyn (Hendrickson) Shane. He was the youngest of five children.As a young man Alvin loved riding his bike everywhere. He had a paper route, ran cross country for the track team and played football. At 15, he became a movie projectionist and held that job until June 1962 when he joined the U. S. Navy. He retired in 1986 after 24 years of service.After his navy retirement he worked for Orchard Supply Hardware, Radio Shack, as a landscaper and a bus driver in Richmond. In 1990 he received a job doing case records at San Quentin State Penitentiary. In April 1993 he went to the academy to become a Correctional Officer, making it a second career, retiring in November 2015.Alvin met his wife Ellen Faye (Clark) Shane through a mutual friend. After only knowing each other for six months and meeting face to face three times, they married on June 8, 1966. A true story book romance that lasted 49 years, two months and 10 days when his beloved wife passed away. Alvin is survived by his four children, Alvin P. (Ursula) Shane Jr. of Lincoln; Michael E. (Trinity) Shane of Vacaville, Deborah (Matt) Laird of Antioch; Darlene (Dennis) Luttringer of Vallejo; sister, Minnie Lois Gormon of Boise, ID; sisters-in-law, Betty (Ken) Bebensee of Walker, IA, Louise Fritz of Clearlake; grandchildren, Zaine and Zoe Fortune, Alvin P. Shane III, Grayson (Erik) Peterson; Kendra Maikkula; Logan Shane; Zack Shane; AJ Maikkula; Dillan Shane, Zandria Rockwood; Zander Shane and Jasmine Shane; great-granddaughter, Sequoia Fortune; many nieces, nephews and cousins.Alvin is predeceased by his wife, Ellen Shane; grandson, Blayden Fortune; his parents and three siblings.Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo with honors performed by the San Quentin Honor Guard beginning at 12 noon. Due to Covid-19 there is a limit of 30 people inside the mortuary at any time. Masks are required. I am missing you something fierce Pop's... Thank you for being the most amazing Dad that I could ever ask for. Fly high with the angels dear sweet sir... give mama a kiss for me... I salute you once more... At ease Chief, you did your family sooo proud, your dedication to us kids and our mother is unmeasurable in words ...
