Mahoney, Daniel P. HALFMOON Daniel P. Mahoney, 65, of Heirloom Lane died on Sunday, February 23, 2014 after a long illness. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Joseph Berchmans Mahoney III and Marie R. Lecuyer Mahoney. Danny was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Viet Nam War from 1968 to 1969 as a combat infantryman with the 101st Airborne Division. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal with four Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, Expert Rifle medal, Combat Infantryman badge, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Meritorious Unit citation and Expert Pistol medal. Because of his effort to re-enlist for Desert Storm, the late Rep. Gerald B.H. Solomon spoke of Daniel P. Mahoney on the Congressional Floor as a "true unsung hero." He was a member of the American Legion Charles J. Brady Post as well as the Lansingburgh Veterans. He was a generous and loyal brother and friend. Danny also was an avid golfer who was most proud of his best round of 72 at Saratoga State Park. Above all he cherished his family, his beloved wife Pattie, his children, grandchildren and brother and best friend David. His motto was "no stinkin thinkin, we are Mahoneys and we deal with it." He is the beloved husband of 36 years of Patricia A. Bills Mahoney; the father of Daniel P. Mahoney II of Davidson, N.C., Meghan Marie Mahoney of Boston and Sean Kelsey Mahoney of Los Angeles. He was loving Poppy to Ronan James, Delia Marie and Nathan Gabriel Mahoney. He is brother of Waterford Village Mayor J. Bert Mahoney IV (Marge), Michael D. Mahoney, and Kathleen A. LaMarche, (George) all of Waterford, J. David Mahoney (Donna) of Loudonville and Sandra M. Brown (Steve) of Waterford. Also surviving is his father-in-law, Alfred D. Bills and his numerous loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 9 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Route 32), Waterford and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Those who wish may make contributions to the Disabled American Veterans in care of the funeral home office or Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Special thanks are extended to his dear friend, Charlie Root. Through the bravery you instilled in us, we may have settled far away, but this only strengthened the love we share in our hearts.
