Vaillancourt, Pauline M. Ph.D. ALBANY Pauline M. Vaillancourt, Ph.D., 89, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Fall River, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Leo and Rhea Godbout Vaillancourt. Dr. Vaillancourt was the beloved sister of Murielle Vaillancourt and Lucille Kleinkauf-Hartwell; she was the dear aunt of H. Frederick Kleinkauf and Erica McNicholas; several grandnieces and grandnephews survive. Dr. Vaillancourt earned her BS in biology at St. John's University, and her MS in LS in 1953 at Columbia University School of Library Science. In 1968 she earned her doctorate degree. Dr. Vaillancourt previously taught at Columbia University, C.W. Post College, University of Washington at Seattle, National University of Mexico and Queens College, Magill University, and retired from the University at Albany. She held a lifetime membership in the New York Academy of Sciences, American Library Association, Medical Library Association, and New York Library Club. Dr. Vaillancourt was a member of the Special Libraries Association, Association of American Library Schools, Heritage Circle Society of the University at Albany. She also was a Parish member, Rosary Guild member and former lector and Eucharist minister at Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany. Dr. Vaillancourt held numerous offices in the Library Association and presented papers nationally and internationally in those areas. She was a consultant to the Countway Library of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens, the Veterans Administration of Northport, Long Island and the United Hospital Foundation of New York. She was a former president and board member of the Capital District Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. In this capacity she presented papers at the International Alzheimer's meeting in Dublin, Ireland and Mexico City. Dr. Vaillancourt was the author of many articles and published three books, "Literature of Oncology", "International Directory of Acronyms", and "Cancer Journals and Serials". She traveled widely including to Australia, Brazil, Cuba, Japan, Europe, Hawaii and Alaska. Funeral services Monday, June 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation will be prior to the Mass, 8:30 to 10 a.m. Monday in McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in Notre Dame Cemetery & Chapel, Fall River, Mass.
