Dennis Duane Aalbers Oct. 15, 1958 to Sept. 18, 2010 Dennis Duane Aalbers, a longtime resident of Pierce County, Washington, passed away at the age of 51 on Saturday, September 18, 2010, in Grapeview, WA. Dennis was born on October 15, 1958 in Des Moines, Iowa to Duane and Darlene Aalbers. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and after attending East High School, Grinnell College, and the University of Iowa, he moved to the Puget Sound area. As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hiking, mountain climbing, and camping in the Pacific Northwest. He was active in The Boy Scouts, and involved in music with the praise worship team along with participating in the annual pageant play at his church. Dennis also enjoyed participating in the civil war reenactments with the Fife and Drum Corps with the drums and black powder rifles. Dennis as a professional drummer restored percussion instruments and enjoyed teaching percussion to other young drummers. His hobbies also included woodworking, remote control cars, and model trains. Dennis will be remembered as a devoted son, father, stepfather, brother, and friend. His family and relatives played an important role in his life. He was a highly regarded employee and co-worker for over 20 years at Continental Mills in Kent, Washington. He is survived by his daughter Taryn, stepson Brian, and their mother Pam, in Fircrest, WA; parents Duane and Darlene Aalbers of Grapeview, WA; his brother Steven Aalbers, sister-in-law Julie, and nieces Emily and Kaylee of Gresham, OR; sister Nancy Tyree, nephews Joshua, Jeremiah and Joseph Parker of Puyallup WA; and sister Laurie Selle, brother-in-law, Dennis, nephews Colton and Cody and niece Cassie of Bonney Lake, WA. A public visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 24, 2010 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at New Tacoma Funeral Home in University Place, WA. A public funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Chambers Creek Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery in University Place, WA with Rev. Jackson Clelland officiating. Following the Funeral service there will be a brief graveside ceremony. As a memorial the family requests that donations be made in Dennis Aalbers' name to the Mount Rainer National Park Trails Program in memory of Dennis Aalbers.
