DERRY - Bernard H. "Ben" Plocharczyk, 94, of Derry, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry.Mr. Plocharczyk was born in Derry on Jan. 20, 1920, a son of the late Josef and Elenora (Grzegorczyk) Plocharczyk. He was a 1938 graduate of Pinkerton Academy and was employed in footwear manufacturing for Genesco and Stride Rite Corp.Mr. Plocharczyk served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He enjoyed gardening and always maintained a vegetable stand.He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Claire (Colbert) Plocharczyk of Derry; two sons, Robert W. Plocharczyk and his wife, Jean, and Stephen J. Plocharczyk and his wife, Sandra; four grandchildren, Scott Plocharczyk, Todd Plocharczyk, Allison Connor and Sarah Duhaime; five great-grandchildren, Lucas Connor, Emily Connor, Kyle Plocharczyk, Julia Duhaime, and Charles Duhaime. He was predeceased by his siblings, Edward, John, Adolph, Helen, Sally, Mary and Florence.


services: Calling hours will be held Monday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry.
