NEWPORT - Roland H. Taylor passed away suddenly on Sept. 9, 2013. We lost our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, partner and best friend.

Rolly was born in Natick, Mass., in 1932. He graduated from Natick High School where he played on the championship football team. He served two years in the U.S. Army, attended Stonier Graduate School of Banking and graduated from Williams College Graduate School of Banking.

Roland started his career at the Framingham National Bank. During his 37 years, he worked his way up, retiring as president of Merchants National Bank in Dover.

He was community-minded and especially enjoyed his service to the Rotary Club. He particularly enjoyed their spirited competitions with members of the Lions Club as well.

Rolly was a hard-working family man who enjoyed every minute of his life. He always had several projects going (when he wasn‘t golfing). One of his best friends said that he never knew a day when Rolly wasn't happy.

He was predeceased by Mary, his wife of 56 years, his sister Grace, his brother "Buddy" and his grandson Timothy.

He is survived by his son, Roland H. "Gus" Taylor Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; his three daughters, Nadine Moran and her husband, Timothy, of Colchester, Vt., Susan Sanborn and her husband, William, of Newport, and Laura Trow and her husband, Jeffrey, of Sunapee; his foster son, William MacKenzie and his wife, Debra, of Swansea, Mass.; his 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, Molly, Roland III, Joseph, Jessica, William Jr., Matthew, Benjamin, Jeremy, Joshua, Tonya and Mark; and 12 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Cooper, Maya, Owen, Benjamin, Jasmine, Brayden, Xavier, Brayden, Cameron, Arabelle and Lilyanne; his companion, Betty Lombardo and her children, Peter, Linda and Chelsea.
