William R. Cameron

RAYMOND - William R. Cameron died on his 93rd birthday at the Oceanside Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hampton.

He was born on June 24, 1920, in Boston, the son of the late William D. and Jennie (Joyce) Cameron.

Bill was raised in Quincy, Mass., and was a 1938 graduate of Quincy High School. He was employed briefly by Goodyear Rubber Company before he began a 34-year career in the U.S. Army that included his enlisted service in the Army Air Corps during World War II and commissioned service in the Army Reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

Bill was a resident of Peabody, Mass., from 1954 to 1992 before moving to Raymond. He was also employed as a travel agent for many years in Lynn, Mass., by Bresnahan Travel and Magrane Travel before he retired. He was a member of the American Legion Post 90 and the VFW Post 4479 in Raymond. Bill was a lifelong Red Sox fan and enjoyed many outdoor activities. He was an avid fisherman.

He was predeceased by his wife Martha J. (Milks) Cameron, who died in 1998, and his son, William J. Cameron, who died in 2010. He is survived by two sons, Robert G. Cameron of Braintree, Mass., and Michael M. Cameron of Salem, Mass.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


services: Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 28, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 2 Epping St., Raymond. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
