Jon Malo Obituary
VIRGINIA BEACH - Jon (Jack) Malo, 73 of Williamsburg, VA passed away after a long battle with Brain Cancer on 08/05/2017. Jack was born in Grafton, North Dakota on 09/21/1943 to Ernest and Mary Malo. He enjoyed his early childhood years growing up on the family farm with his parents, grandparents and his two older brothers. His early elementary school was attending the one room country school along with his brothers. It was the same school that his father attended as a child. When the country school closed he attended the Cavalier North Dakota school system along with his brothers. After his graduation from High School he enlisted in the Army in 1962 and was a part of Project TX for 2 ½ years. During this time Jack and his two brothers were all on active military duty at the same time much to the pride and anxiety of two loving parents. Upon the completion of his military service, Jack enrolled in college and on December 27th 1967 Jack and Sharon (Sherri) Rosenberg were married in Cavalier, North Dakota. After his graduation from North Dakota State University, Jack and Sherri moved to Springfield Virginia and for 29 years they both taught in the Fairfax County Public School System. Jack spent his professional teaching career as a History teacher. When he and Sherri retired they chose to move to Williamsburg Virginia. For 16 years Jack volunteered as a docent in the Restored Colonial Williamsburg area where the Dawn of America is recreated and his love of history could be relived for the people who come to hear his presentation. Jack was an avid reader and a member of the men's book club that met monthly. He was also a member of ROMEO's, Retired Old Men Eating Out, a group of friends that met for lunch every week. Living on a beautiful golf course gave Jack an opportunity to challenge his older brothers to playing golf with him whenever the opportunity arose and it was always a spirited game. Jack is survived by his wife Sherri, his daughter Danielle Malo, son Michael Malo, brothers Michael (Carol) Malo and Patrick (Barbara) Malo, nieces Suzanne (Lee) Fuller. Kathie (Tom) Grau, and nephew David (Christina) Bacus. Jack is preceded in death by his Father, Ernest Malo and Mother, Mary Malo. Jack's wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes spread in the ocean at Myrtle Beach, SC where he and Sherri spent many vacations. A special tribute and celebrating of his life will be held with family and friends at their home in Williamsburg, Virginia. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be given to the Hospice House of Williamsburg 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188 or Patriots Colony Convalescent Center of Williamsburg 6000 Patriots Colony Drive Williamsburg, VA 23188. The family of Jack Malo wishes to thank all the friends and family for the love and support during this very difficult time.
