We are sad to announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, Thelma Pedersen, on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at the age of 91 years. She was the loving wife of Russell Pedersen (deceased 2006), and dear mother of Valentine (Edward) Leong of Portland, Oregon, Peter Pedersen (deceased 1994) of Nanaimo BC (Gail & Ken Bunnage), Gregory (Mineko) Pedersen of White Rock, BC, Patricia (Bruce) Livingstone of Lethbridge, Alberta, and Suzette (Dave) Pedersen/Farrant of Nanaimo, BC, 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Thelma was born on June 25, 1923 in Mangawhata, New Zealand and was the youngest daughter of 12 children born to her parents, Maude and Isaac Cooksley. She was the sole surviving member of all her siblings at the time of her passing. Thelma had a great love for her family and always welcomed them into her home with joy and appreciation to spend time with each one. She was a great cook, preparing many delicious meals and baking wonderful desserts and treats, along with preserving fruits, jams and jellies from the bounties of her garden. She loved her garden and flowers and would spend many hours tending them. She delighted in caring for her home and adding special touches to her decorating. She was a wonderful seamstress and talented in her knitting abilities, making many beautiful items of clothing throughout her life. Thelma had a quiet love and reverence for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and served faithfully in all her church callings throughout her life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Friends may meet the family on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, BC from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2424 Glen Eagle Crescent, Nanaimo, BC from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with President H. Slobodan officiating.
