Faith Ivancovich Obituary
Faith Ivancovich Faith Ivancovich, 91, a retired teacher, passed away in Fresno, CA on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, just a week before her 92nd birthday. Faith was born in Hanford, CA at her parent's home on Normandie Street on October 8, 1921. Her parents were Peter Nicholas Ivancovich and Danitza Ninkovich, both immigrants from Trebinje, Bosnia -Herzegovina. Faith attended the local schools and graduated from Hanford High with the class of 1939. She enjoyed attending their class reunions for more than 70 years. When the WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service) was established in July 1942 Faith enlisted and was sent for training to Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, OK and then to Hunter College in New York City before being assigned to duty in San Francisco, her favorite city. After her discharge from the U.S. Navy, Faith went to work for the Davies Machinery Company in Hanford, where her sister was also employed, as a secretary to the owner and started taking night classes at Visalia Junior College. She was an outstanding typist and could take shorthand as fast as you could talk. She retained this skill until she was almost 90. She was blessed with a fine mind and a good sense of humor. Thanks to the inspiration and encouragement of her brother "Bill" and his wife Della, a teacher, Faith and her sister, Hope, gave notice to their employer and started at Fresno State University in July of 1954. By going to school year-round they were able to graduate in June 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Teaching Credential in Education. She was immediately hired by the Fresno Unified School District and taught at John C. Fremont Elementary School for nearly 30 years. She was dedicated to her students and continued to follow their lives as they reached adulthood. She often mentioned that Channel 24 anchor Stefani Booroogian was one of her pupils. After her retirement from teaching she continued her life of service by tutoring students for several years. She taught Sunday school at People's Church and was an active member of the Fresno , their only member who was not afflicted with this disease. She was a 50-year member of Alpha Delta Kappa an honorary organization of women educators and stayed active in the organization until the last few years of her life. Faith enjoyed traveling and she visited several countries and many, many places in the U.S. She made many trips with the Active Adult group from People's Church and with different members of her extended family. Her favorite color was yellow and her favorite flower was the sunflower. Faith was preceded in death by her parents; her older brothers, Joaquin Ivancovich, Stephen Ivancovich, Wayne William "Bill" Ivans; her fraternal twin, Hope Ivancovich and a foster nephew, Jerry Keeler. Faith is survived by her sisters-in-law, Lillian Ivancovich, of Visalia, and Della Ivans, of Redlands; her younger brother Nicholas Ivans and his wife Edna of Avenal.
