I served with Eugene in Afghanistan I was in 6th marines. I still remember the radio traffic announcing the "river city". I never had the honor of knowing eugene as much as his brothers in 1/8 did but even in the short time I knew him I came to know him as a great friend. Every year I pray I get a oppertunity to visit where he is laid to rest. I never thought when I last saw him it would be the last time I ever would. He was the first and only person I knew who was lost to that hell we all endured. I wear a memorial bracelet every day with his name to inspire me to live a life worth living and that I should never take what I have for granted. I pray only to visit Arlington where they told me he was buried, as I couldnt go to the service when I was in because my unit didnt let us go to any it they were from our own unit... semper fidelis my friend.. may you never be forgotten and till Valhalla!

As this day starts I will honor you the best I can. Please know this just isn't right, you should be here....your kids should be running through my house and destroying it as you and Jake did when you were younger. I love you and I miss you more than anyone can ever imagine. Why would this happen....proud to be your father. This world will never be right without you....never ever. Gene, I miss you every moment of every day. I never knew how hard this would be on me and everyone else. I have learned how much you are loved by friends, fellow Marines and family. I can only imagine how much joy you would have continued to bring to all of us. I am so sad that you are gone. I will never get to hold your son or daughter and have them call me grandpa. You are always on my mind and you are always with me. As I have said before:

One proud pop of a US MARINE.......I love you son.

Gene was in my 7th grade math class; I just saw his obituary. I was not sure it was the same Gene until I saw his smile in a pool picture--you could always pick him out of a crowd of identical kids by that smile--even when we got mad with each other we remained good "friends".

He was one of those few rare 7th graders that felt comfortable talking to adults, and would think nothing of coming over and plopping himself down and just start a conversation...and a good one, at that.

To be honest, even with a name and photo I don't remember too many students. But I remember Gene; most days just walking to lunch or something
and chatting.

I am grateful he got his wish, for a time, grateful for parents like you.

The world has lost a good soul. But he does remain. God Bless. William Nock

Gene, I met you on an airplane when I was flying to visit a friend in North Carolina. Our plane got cancelled and rescheduled to the next day. We instantly clicked. You had the most amazing sense of humor and a wonderful smile. I think about you everyday, and I will be missing you everyday. Thanks for always keeping me safe, and one day we will meet again.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Eugene will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.

I am so sad about the lost of Jene. I know how much Casey and her family were looking forward for the big day when he was coming home. He did us a honor by serving in the Service for all of us. His service at the church was so outstanding. He received the send off that he deserved. Thank you Jene

Your son will not be forgotten and what he did to help protect our homeland and our freedoms. It was his life that made him a Hero. It was his noble path that made him an American Hero. It was his ultimate sacrifice that made him a Fallen Hero. May God carry him to Heaven on His precious wings and give him a palace to live in. Theresa, Gene, Jake - we cannot begin to understand what you have been going through. Like everyone else we were shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of Gene III. We are deeply saddened that he made the supreme sacrifice on behalf of his Country, his family, and friends and perhaps most importantly for thousands of people he didn't even know - so that others my enjoy the freedoms we have in this Country. There is no truer form of hero. I only wish we could shake his hand to thank him. I hope your days will begin to get better little by little - it will be hard but that is what Gene would want for you. To the Family and all who loved LCpl Eugene Mills....For your loss there are no words that I can write that will ease your pain. I just wanted you to know that we, your Marine Family share your tears and feel your loss. I am a Grandma of a Marine and just the thought of losing him makes my heart ache. I truly believe that every Marine is every Mothers son. It doesn't matter what unit you are with or what state you live in, we are a huge Marine family and all across this great nation we mourn with you. My hope is that you and your family will feel the love that we send to you at this terrible time in your lives.

I read once, “that we never have children, we receive them. And sometimes it's not for quite as long as we would have expected or hoped for. But it is still far better than never having had those children at all”, so celebrate the life of your precious son,and brother. Each time you have a memory smile and savor it. Embrace the love that this Maryland Marine family sends to you and yours.

Your son and all of those who have gone before him, is what makes our nation what it is, not perfect, but still the greatest nation in the world. You raised a beautiful son. You gave us and the world the best America has to offer. Our grief is the price we have to pay for loving. When you need to cry, don't hold back, for you see tears, are the language of love.

My prayer is that God will give you His Peace that surpasses all understanding. May you find some comfort in one of my favorites verses; Isaiah 43 v 2-3….When you go through deep waters, I will be with your…When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown….When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you…For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. The key word here is THROUGH, so take hold of His hand and don't let go.

I wish that there was something I could say that would ease your pain. I can only let you know the pain I feel in my heart for you. I am sorry that I never got a chance to personally know Eugene but he will always be in my heart and in my prayers. I will also keep you and your family in my heart and in my prayers. Thank you for raising such a fine young man and a true HERO.

A young man I went to school with lost his life at the age of 22 in the Helmand province, as well. Being from a small town, it really hits home. It's absolutely heartbreaking to see another life lost so tragically. To his family, thank you for raising a selfless, courageous individual. People like him are the reason I am free. May you find peace in knowing he lost his life while fighting for something he loved and believed in.
