MARY MARGARET SIMEON STEIN
On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, known to her friends as "Chuckie," was raised by the Nuns of Saint Vincent's Home and School for Girls in Washington DC from the age of nine. Her spirit, smile, style and sparkle attracted many friends and admirers as well as kindhearted souls who gave her guidance, became a surrogate family for her, and helped her along the way. She was an athlete, a daredevil and a tomboy who excelled at Basketball and Baseball as a girl and later completed the Marine Corps and New York Marathons. She met her husband Jacob Stein, who said he married the girl with the best posture in DC, through a mutual friend. They eloped to Las Vegas and were married for 58 years raising a son and a daughter who were the center of her world. She opened an upscale consignment store called Once is Not Enough with two friends and with that income made the down payment on a beach house in Bethany Beach, Delaware which was her refuge and delight. She loved rescue dogs, elephants, gardenias and dancing the jitterbug. She was generous to a fault and would do anything for her friends and family. She is survived by her husband Jacob Stein, her two children Joseph and Julie Stein, and a sister Catherine Guidoni. In lieu of flowers or funeral service the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Washington Humane Society, Cure PSP and the Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network. Dear Jake, Julie and Joe,
We have the fondest of memories with Mary and love her and your family very much. Personally, I feel fortunate to have known her and remember the last time we saw each other. We went for a long walk on the beach, talked and laughed. All was good in our worlds at that time. I know my mother misses her dearly and often shares stories of their adventures. My entire family sends you love, hugs and prayer during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Theo Harding
