Dear Rosemary,

I'm so sorry to have read about the passing of John on the Gonzaga website. I will pray for you and your family. Being in North Carolina, I have missed much information from the family.

Yvonne passed in February from cancer. Things are slowly getting better. My prayers to you and your family.

To John Manfreda's Family. I worked for 33 years with him mostly in BHQ Alcohol Regulatory Enforcement ATF/TTB until my retirement 10 years ago. John was a first class leader and great public servant; the likes of which not to be found rarely again. With Deepest Sympathy for your great loss.

To John's Family:

Please accept my deeply felt condolences. I have been traveling and only learned of John's passing yesterday.

John and I both began our legal careers in San Francisco where we were baby lawyers together, he at ATF and I at Wine Institute. We stayed in touch. He often lectured at the ABC law seminars I chaired and although over the years we were adverse on several legal issues we always treated each other with respect and friendship. I retired from my law firm in January and John sent me the nicest message I got from anyone. He talked about having dinner together the next time my wife and I came to Washington. I will always be sorry that we didn't get there in time.

To Rosemary and the Entire Manfreda Family:

My deepest sympathies to all of you at this terrible loss. Today's service was a testament to all that made John such a special person. I had the pleasure of working closely with him for many years while I was in Treasury's General Counsel's Office. John embodied the very best about public service --- integrity, commitment to justice and putting the public good first. In addition, as was noted, he had the most wonderful and impish sense of humor.

I was so fortunate to have known him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Deepest sympathy,
