Evelyn M. (Wherley) Workman, 86, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 at SpiriTrust Lutheran, Village at Sprenkle Drive, York. She was the wife of Edwin S. Workman who died on January 21, 2005.
Mrs. Workman was born in Hanover on Saturday, January 3, 1931, daughter of the late Allen Wherley and Ethel (Weikert) Wherley Brockway.
Evelyn was a nurse in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. She later became an LPN and was employed in the labor and delivery departments of the former West Side and Memorial Hospital, retiring after 53 years of service. She was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church, York.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon E. Chabal and her husband, Dr. Charles Chabal of Bellevue, WA; a son, Edwin H. Workman and his wife, Melissa of Dover; five grandchildren, Emma C. Chabal, Zachary S. Workman, C. Alex Chabal, Zoey E. Workman and Darah C. Chabal; nine siblings, William, James and Donald Wherley, all of Hanover, Herbert Wherley of New Oxford, John Wherley of Brodbeck, Helen Bollinger of Hanover, Shirley Werner of Hanover, Linda Wherley and Nancy Plunkett both of CA. She was proceded in death by seven siblings, Ray, David, Robert, Dorothy, Fred and Richard Wherley, Ruth Yohe; and her step father, Roy Brockway.
A Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., 2290 School St., York (Shiloh). There will be a visitation from 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Final resting place will be private.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a Veteran's .
