Herb Pitch
Herb Pitch died April 10, 2018 at the age of 73. He leaves behind Judi, his wife of 51 years, and his son, Michael.
Herb lived an inspirational and aspirational life. He married Judi at the age of 22, and the pair travelled the world and the country as he built the foundation for his teaching career. They settled in New York City, where they were raised, and he rose from the classroom to administration. Eventually he transitioned into entrepreneurship when he became the owner and operator of the Highland School, a private elementary and intermediate school currently, that is still viable 36 years later. Herb remained involved in the school as Chairman of the Board until 2014.
In 1992, he retired from full time work to focus on volunteering, combining his love of basketball and desire to help kids in need. Two years later, upon moving to Albuquerque, he tutored and mentored several UNM players. He was proud of the ones that made it to the NBA, but even prouder of the ones who secured postgraduate degrees. Following that achievement, he continued to work with young people who needed help on the high and middle school levels, in private, public and in the juvenile justice system
In addition to his wife and son, he leaves behind several great friends with whom he shared his passions for travel, sports and stimulating philosophical conversation. His family and friends can all take solace that he enjoyed his life, and the activities and people in it, until his last day.
Judi will host a celebration of Herb's life at her home in the near future. To receive the announcement, please contact Judi. Please visit our online guestbook for Herb at:
