Alberta Giese

Alberta Giese passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM. She was 92, born on July 8, 1925. She is survived by her devoted & loving husband, Clarence, with whom she celebrated 70 years of marriage.

She will be known forever for her warmth and beauty. Her kindness and love remains with her husband & 4 children, Claudia, Ben, Sarah and Erika.

Survivors include her children, Claudia & her husband Matt, Ben & his wife Monique, Sarah and her husband Tony, and Erika.

Also, her brothers Kenneth, Richard, Carl and Dale, her sisters Juanita and Mary. Her deceased siblings are Fr. Earl, Rita, Norbert, Jeanette and Jake. Her seven grandchildren are Barret, Jeremy, Elliot, Christa, Stefan, Lukas and Karl. Her deceased parents are Thomas & Agnes Harber. Alberta was born in Yoder, IN.

Alberta & Clarence are cofounders of IES Abroad, which they started in the 1950s. The first program started in Vienna, Austria, where they lived & worked on the program for 21 years. They raised their 4 children there. IES Abroad is now present in countries all over the world & well over 100,000 college students have studied on these programs.

Alberta and her husband volunteered to work with Navajo children on the Checkerboard Reservation in Thoreau, NM for 9 years. They also worked with AIDS patients for 10 years around that time.

They moved to Albuquerque in 2000 where Alberta volunteered at Kaseman hospital in the post-op unit for 9 years.

In 2011 they moved to Manzano del Sol Retirement Community. Alberta's memorial service will be held there on Oct 7, 2017 at 2pm. The address is 5201 Roma Ave, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Rev. Cullen Woods will be officiating.
