Alfred "AJ" De Guio

Alfred De Guio left our world to join the Lord on February 2, 2018 at the age of 85 after a battle with cancer. Alfred was born to Louis and Luigia De Guio, immigrants from Italy, on March 12, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA.

He is survived by his three children, Fred and his wife Susan, Chris and his wife Deidre, all of Albuquerque, and Lisa and her husband Dr. David Claiborne of San Rafael, CA. He has five grandchildren, Benjamin, Chase, and Christy De Guio and Christina and Alexander Claiborne. He is also survived by brother Robert and sister Lydia De Guio of Philadelphia.

Alfred was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold and John, and by his second spouse, Shirley.

Alfred first married Victoria R. Mitros in 1957 and began to raise their three children in Philadelphia before moving to Albuquerque in 1963. He started his career with Trans World Airlines, "TWA", at the Philadelphia airport in 1950 doing all phases of airport operational work and was managing a city ticket office in Albuquerque when retiring in 1983. He then worked several smaller jobs until 1994 when he contracted Benign Essential Blepharospasm, a form of Dystonia that affects the eyes. Alfred then became very active in neuroscience research and in promoting awareness of Dystonia. He was head of many support groups and became a resource person and support group coordinator for the state of New Mexico.

Alfred loved travelling, seeing the land, and living simple. He was a very loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed not only by his family but by all his friends, especially those that he has helped and touched with Dystonia.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church. The date and time will be announced at Riversidefunerals.com.

In lieu of gifts, please consider donating to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation.
