Alice Elizabeth (Libby) Evans Long

Jul. 12, 1927 to Feb. 19, 2018

Libby passed away peacefully in her home on February 19, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Marcus Long.

Alice Elizabeth was born July 12, 1927 in La Mesa, TX to Clarence Lloyd Evans and Pearl Lusk Evans.

Libby is survived by two of her three sisters, Ruth Evans Fish of Abilene, TX and Barbara Evans Lasater of Albuquerque, NM; three children, Steven Marcus Long (Laura Ulibarri) of Maui HI, Laurie Elizabeth Long Nelson (Dale Carbine Nelson) of Sacramento, CA, and Mary Johanna Long of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Dale Nelson, Cia Elizabeth Nelson Taylor (Scott Taylor), Janeal Diane Nelson, Bailey Johanna Long and Devin Jasper Ulibarri (Chie Yasuda); and three great-grandchildren, Elena Elizabeth Taylor, Cameron Nelson Taylor and Kai Hideki Ulibarri.

In Libby's early years she learned to cook, sew, garden, sing, play guitar, and care for animals. Her love of reading, nature, and gardening was learned from her mother. Being the true artist that she was, she loved the sunlight and shadows that fell on God's creations, casting texture, color, character and beauty to the earth around her. Libby was at her happiest when she was being creative. Libby was very talented and she used her talents to take care of her family and friends. Libby loved everyone and everyone loved Libby. She greeted all with a big smile and welcoming arms. Her love for family, friends and neighbors was boundless. She loved us all!

Libby was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As a member of the church's Relief Society organization, she helped many women in their roles as individuals, wives and mothers. She would tell each of us that she knows there is a God in Heaven who loves us all and that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to the earth to show all men the way that we should treat others. If there is but one thing she could share with her family, it is her love for them.

Libby's family and friends will hold dear the images of our life with her. We will see Mom in the red glow of the Sandia Mountains in the evening, and in beauty of the daffodils and iris each spring. We will see her in the fabric shops enjoying the beautiful colors that she could transform into a quilt or a muu muu. We will hear her in the humming of the sewing machine, using her ever-amazing creativity. We will see her smile, as she adored her grandchildren as they laughed around her kitchen table. We will hold dear the image of her being with our father, her Tall Man Clifford, being very happy and at peace.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 8130 Sage Rd. SW, Albuquerque, NM 87121, 10:00-10:45, viewing and time with the family, 11:00 funeral. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd, SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.
