Alice Thompson Obituary
Thompson, Alice

Alice Thompson, 91, a loving sister, aunt, mother and the best grandma in the world, passed away on April 28, 2017. A native of New Mexico, she was born on November 2, 1925 in Madrid, NM to Charles Edward and Mary Borrego Gibbs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Helen Martinez; Robert Thompson - the father of her children; and her daughter, Lucy, whose sudden and tragic death left a void in Alice's heart that could never be filled.

She is survived by her daughters, Berta Thompson, Judy Fifield and husband, John and Lorrie Stepetic and husband, Tim. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jason Fifield and wife, Ellie, Jennifer Lafromboise and husband, Eli, Kelly Stepetic, and Jamie Stepetic and a precious great-grandchild, Zachary Lafromboise. She leaves her sister, Patricia Kuper and brothers, Robert Gibbs Sr. and Charles Gibbs Jr.; as well as numerous cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved very much.

After graduating from St. Scholastica High School in Canyon City, CO, she lived in Santa Fe where she married and raised her daughters. For most of this time, she was a stay-at-home Mom. She volunteered at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and School. In 1970 she and her girls moved to Albuquerque. Alice began working full time, first with her sister, Helen and brother-in-law, Manuel (Tingley) at Central Dental Lab. She also worked for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) at the Albuquerque office as the Mail Room Supervisor, where she retired.

During retirement, Alice managed a small apartment complex that she owned. She especially enjoyed caring for the numerous rose bushes, maintaining the property, and visiting with her neighbors. But what she loved more than anything was spending time with her grandchildren. She supported and encouraged them to do their best in school, with all their activities, through their college education and into adulthood. They brought her so much joy and happiness!

Alice was a wonderful cook - especially New Mexican food. She loved to bake and was known for her ice box cookies, biscochitos, and coffee cakes. Alice loved sweets - especially candy bars. When she was at Rust Hospital during the week before she passed, one of the nurses asked if there was anything else she needed. Alice's response --"I'd like a candy bar".

Rosary will be recited on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at FRENCH â€"Wyoming. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 2, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7999 Wyoming Blvd NE. Alice will always be in our hearts and will always be remembered for her unconditional love. We love you Mom, Grandma (aka Gramcracker), and GREAT-Grandma. Enjoy salsa, chips and a margarita with Lucy like you did in Atlanta!! Please visit our online guestbook for Alice at
