Brodeur, Alphonse M. Sr.

Alphonse M. Brodeur, Sr. was called home to Heaven on July 21, 2017, 3 days shy of his birthday after a brief yet brave fight with cancer.

A native of Vermont, Alphonse joined the Air Force for two terms; he quickly acclimated to New Mexico customs. Alphonse was a dedicated teacher whose goal was to bring knowledge to his students. He was a resolute family man to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Helen Sanchez Brodeur; his son, Al, Jr., and wife Ashley Brodeur; his daughter Maria Elena and husband Kevin Hughes; grandchildren, Katrina Larsen and husband James, Richard Joseph Brodeur and wife Lydia, Clara Antoinette Brodeur and fiance Nicholas Freer, and John Henry Brodeur; his two brothers-in-law, Dr. Joseph P. Sanchez and wife Loretta and their sons Joseph Sanchez, M.D., and Paul A. Sanchez; Tom R. Sanchez and wife Mary and their son Maxwell, also nephew Tommy Jr., and niece Leanna. Also, sister-in-law, Ida Ann Valverde and daughter Annette Aragon, his beloved niece Diane Willson and husband Dave, and other numerous nephews and nieces. Special family friends include Bill and Sylvia Hughes, and Ted and Eleanor Cooley.

Visitation was held on July 24, 2017 at 9:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center on UNM Campus, followed by the Rosary and Holy Mass. Interment occurred at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the . Please visit Alphonse's guestbook online at
