Paden, Ann James

Ann James-Paden- Sanchez, age 76, passed away peacefully at home in Albuquerque on February 10, 2016.

Ann originally came to Albuquerque in 1953 when her parents, Lt. Col. Jack and Betty James, moved to Sandia Base. She will be remembered locally by her Highland High Class of 1957 classmates for her extraordinary qualities of leadership, scholarship and friendship; she was also honored as Homecoming Queen. She was a 1961 graduate of Occidental College, earning Phi Beta Kappa in her junior year, and was later a post-graduate fellow of the Harvard/Radcliffe Institute. Her career as an author, researcher, editor, columnist, literary critic, award-winning writer of biographies and family histories took her throughout the U.S. and to the UK and Africa. Returning to NM in the 1990s, she continued writing and editing and co-authored the critically recognized collection of the letters of painter Georgia O'Keeffe and Maria Chabot. She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was responsible for her aging mother in Albuquerque for many years.

The Celebration of Life for Ann will be held at First Unitarian Church, 3701 Carlisle Blvd. NE (Carlisle and Comanche) in Albuquerque on Friday, February 26, 2016, 1 pm. An informal reception will follow.
