Arthur Schroeder Wellbaum Obituary
Wellbaum, Arthur Schroeder

Arthur Schroeder Wellbaum, age 96, completed his journal on this earth on February 2, 2016.

Arthur was born on March 8, 1919 in Richmond, Indiana and graduated from Morton High School in the class of 1936. He went on to graduate from the University of Illinois (BA) and New Mexico Highlands University (MA).

Arthur served in the US Army in an Anti-Aircraft Artillery unit during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. He also served in the European Theater and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of captain. Arthur was especially proud of his service and being part of the "Greatest Generation."

Upon returning to the U.S., Arthur was employed as a statistician in New York City for several years then began a teaching career at Adams State of College in Alamosa, Colorado, where he worked as a professor of Accounting until he retired and moved to Albuquerque.

Arthur was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria; his loving son, Michael; his parents, Arthur Elwood and Matilda (Schroeder) Wellbaum; sisters Mary (Duane) Igelman and Kathryn (Charles) Bell.

He is survived by nephews David (Phyllis) Igelman, Jon (Suzette) Igelman and niece Judith (Scott) Swope; and numerous nieces and nephews in New Mexico.

Arthur loved his Denver Broncos and Notre Dame; many an afternoon was spent enjoying football. He enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, gardening, dogs, crossword puzzles, and a great cigar. He was generous to a fault spent countless hours preparing tax returns for neighbors and anyone in need during tax season.

He greatly enjoyed history, current events, and was an amazing story teller. He had a wicked sense of humor and will be greatly missed.

Rosary and Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
