Bette S. Carleton, age 92, a former resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at her current residence, Paloma Landing in Albuquerque, NM.

Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Bette grew up in Lakeland, Florida. She met and married then-Captain Linwood "Woody" Carleton in 1949 in the Panama Canal Zone. The two of them traveled overseas and to several posts in the United States during her husband's 26-year military career. Bette and Woody moved to Belen, NM in 1972, and enjoyed their evening cocktails, dancing, golfing, and taking fishing trips in their RV.

Bette is preceded in death by Colonel Carleton, US Army (retired), after nearly 52 years of marriage.

She is survived by her son, Linwood "Skip" Carleton and his wife, Kem, of Bakersfield, California; daughter, Leslie Carleton; daughter, Lisa McMullan and husband, Patrick, all residents of Albuquerque, NM. She was the proud grandmother of five: Silas, Chris, & Jeff Carleton and Charles and Dillon Mowery; and three great-grandchildren, Caroline, Clara, and Thomas Carleton.

Bette will be interred with her husband at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, Bette requested that donations be made to the . Information on services will be available at when dates have been determined.
