Betty Lea Rutter, age 82, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on February 16, 2016 at her home in The Woodlands after a brave battle with cancer. Betty was born in Sedalia, Missouri on April 24, 1933.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mae Newland, her brother, Harold Joe Newland, her sister, June Waite and her husband, Robert L. Rutter. Betty is survived by her son, Robert E. Rutter, his wife Carla and son of San Jose, California; daughter Brenda Peterson, her husband Dan and three sons of San Antonio, Texas; and daughter Barbara Funkhouser, her husband Don and one daughter and two sons of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Betty grew up in Sedalia, Missouri and married Robert Rutter, also of Sedalia, Missouri shortly after he joined the USAF in 1953. In 1961, Betty and Bob moved their growing family to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they raised their three children to adulthood and lived for 42 years. After her husband died in 2003, Betty moved to the Windsor Lakes Community in The Woodlands, Texas, where she was active in her community and church. Betty loved life, travel, playing bridge, sewing quilts and the company of her friends and family. All who came into contact with her will remember and cherish her love, generosity and humor.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 3:00 PM this Thursday, February 16 at the Robb Chapel in the Woodlands United Methodist Church located at 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive, The Woodlands, TX.

Lastly, the family would like to give special appreciation and thanks to Luzviminda Gallagher, the mother-in-law of Betty's son, who was a loving and devoted caretaker to Betty in the last difficult months of her life.
