Staggs, Carol Webb Mears



Carol Webb Mears Staggs., 73, passed away Sat., June 24, 2017, at her home in Rio Rancho.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 8 at the Rio Rancho United Methodist Church, 1652 Abrazo Rd NE, Rio Rancho.

Carol was born in Clovis, NM, on December 1, 1943, and grew up in Portales. She was a graduate of Portales High School and Eastern New Mexico University. Carol and Al Staggs were married on August 14, 1999.

A multi-talented musician, Carol served as organist, pianist and music director for the First Baptist Church of Portales, NM, Shady Oaks Baptist Church of Hurst, TX, and the Rio Rancho United Methodist Church for more than fifty years. She served with distinction as an accompanist with the National Dance Institute of New Mexico. She also found enjoyment working in her father's law practice as a young woman, as Owner of the Portales Bus Depot for many years, and as an antique dealer during the time she resided in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Carol was active in several social and civic organizations during her life, including the New Mexico State Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood. She was an avid reader, a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and loved listening to the music of Billy Joel and James Taylor. Carol was a member of the Rio Rancho United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and son: Thomas Eldridge Mears, Jr., Ruby Webb Mears, Tommy Mears, and Doug Stephens. She is survived by her devoted husband, Al Staggs; daughter Christa Stephens and her husband, Austin Buff; daughter Lisa Stephens; son Ryan Staggs and his wife, Jenn; daughter Rebekah Staggs Wright; and grandchildren Jakob Puckett, Miah Puckett, Liana Staggs & Maya Staggs.
