Charles Paul

Thomson Jr.

1/23/1926 - 6/29/2016

In January, he celebrated the 51st anniversary of his 39th birthday.

Paul passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Woodbury, NJ and moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1943. He worked for the ATSF railroad for 14 years in both Las Vegas and Albuquerque. In 1951 he moved to Albuquerque and beginning in 1957, he worked for 36 years at Sandia National Labs.

Paul was married to the love of his life, Elaine, for 60 years. He loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grand children and great grandchildren. Holidays were major family events and many times involved camping in the Jemez or at the Lake. His gift of gab allowed him to make friends easily and he was an excellent story teller with a great sense of humor. Paul's hobbies included ham radio and growing tomatoes. He spent 20 years in scouting. With his good friend, Bob TerMaat, he created and led an Explorer Post specializing in radio communications. Paul was a member of AARL, Upper Rio FM Society, and the Caravan Club.

Giving back to the community, he provided radio communications since 1957 for events including bicycle tours, marathons, walks and runs, horse trials, search and rescue, and fund raisers. He had a great love for the outdoors and was well known for his generosity. His ham radio call sign was K5TCU.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Paul Thomson and Verna Thomson, step mother, Edith Thomson, brothers "Corky" and Don Thomson, his wife Elaine Thomson, brother "in-law" Wesley Kimbrel, son "in-law" Marty Paco.

He is survived by daughter, Kathy Dellinger and husband Carl; son Walt Thomson and wife Joan; and daughter Candy Paco. Grandchildren include Kristy Gustafson and husband Karn, Michelle Hein and husband E.J., David Paco and Brianna, Jim Thomson and Ashley, Mark Thomson and wife Cristina. Great-grandchildren are Ethan and Delaney Gustafson, Makayla Paco, Daken, Liam and Cole Hein, Zoey and Rose Gonzales, and Lauren Thomson.

Paul's family thanks the staff at Legacy Home Health, Lotus House on Galaxia Way and Heritage Hospice for their caring and support.
