Charles Richards Obituary
Richards, Charles "Gib"

Charles "Gib" Richards enjoyed 83 years of life. He was a humble man that was inspirational and supportive to many people. Once diagnosed with Parkinson's, Gib gracefully confronted the progressive disease, never complaining and always smiling. He is now peacefully with our Savior, passing away June 5, 2017.

He was born in Waukegan, IL, raised in Detroit, MI, and attended U of M, earning a BS and MS/PhD in Engineering Mechanics and Engineering Math. He was a member of SAE, Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Sigma, ASME and played hockey (goalie) on teams in Michigan, Canada, and New Mexico. Gib worked for Bendix, NASA, Livermore Labs and was a professor in the ME Dept. at UNM (1964-1998). His main focus as a professor was helping students. He was the student advisor for 25 years and received recognition awards.

Gib started doing magic in 1965, and it developed into a summer "Clown Magic Act" performed throughout the US and Canada. "Fumbles" was his clown name. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and received an "Honor Award" from the Rocky Mountain Association of Fairs. He was on the Children's Council at St. John's Methodist, taught Sunday School and VBS, ushered, tutored, and did magic shows for family nights.

Gib is survived by his beloved wife of 58 wonderful years, Kay; daughters, Marci and Heidi (Lynn); grandchildren, Brittney and Dilynn; sister, Jean (Bob); sister-in-law, Connie (Gary); and nieces and nephews.

Thank you to our friends, Special Live In Care, caregivers, Presbyterian and Kaseman Hospice for all of their compassionate help.
