Charlie, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2016. He was born February 26, 1924 in Lamy, New Mexico to Refugio and Pino Madrid. Charlie was a long time resident of Santa Fe, NM before moving to Albuquerque, NM in 1990.

In 1942, at the age of 18, he was drafted into the US Army, serving in World War II in the European theater in the 129th Signal Radio Intelligence Company and 3257th Signal Service Company as a Radio Operator, translating morse code messages. In 1948, he married the love of his life Filia Tafoya. Charlie retired from the NM State Highway Department in 1986, after 30 years as a Senior Engineering Technician. He was loved by all his family and friends. He was a gentle, humble, kind, loving soul and will be missed and remembered in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his spouse Filia; sister Mollie Lovato; brother Catalino Madrid; granddaughter Elizabeth Brito; grandson Joseph Montoya; and son-in law Max Montoya. Charlie is survived by his daughters Connie Madrid-Romero, spouse John, Rosella Montoya, and Priscilla Madrid, sons James Madrid, spouse Hilda and Ernest Madrid, fiance Susie Trujillo; grandchildren, Mark Madrid, Matthew Madrid, Patrick Madrid, Teresa Madrid, Gloria Bornman, Jeanette Ortiz, Ernie Madrid, Juan Brito; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Other survivors include his sisters-in-law Mollie Garcia, Ida Leyba and Helen Vigil, spouse Louie.

Charlie was a parishioner of Holy Ghost Catholic Parish, and a member of both American Legion Post 99 and the Union Protectiva De Santa Fe.

A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, April 6 at 7:00pm at San Isidro Church, 3552 Agua Fria St., Santa Fe, NM. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 7 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 417 Agua Fria St., Santa Fe, NM. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
