Clara Young, 95, died at home with family at her side. She was born to Addie (Bayley) and Ben Ray on her grandparents' homesteading farm near Plainview, Texas. She was the second child among three brothers, George, Lyle and Ronald. The family survived the Great Depression, the dust bowl, and WWII through a strong work ethic, genuine love, and an unbreakable family bond. Clara was the last survivor of her family.

She was always positive, hard working, intelligent, creative, fun loving, friendly and her laughter was delightful. In her golden years she was a dedicated family historian, photo album maker and letter writer extraordinaire, leaving family stories for future generations.

She graduated from Plainview Business College, a star throughout her education and her secretarial career. She married Roy Young of Dalhart, Texas in April 1942. They had one child, Vicki, born six weeks after Roy left to serve the allied forces in Italy.

The couple in Albuquerque, New Mexico to learn the furniture business, later owning Franciscan Furniture with two partners, Myron Robert and William Ploetz. The four made a great success, with loyal employees, manufacturing solid oak furniture for motels and hotels in the four corners states. Their last job before retirement in 1971 was to entirely furnish the William Towers dormitories at CU Boulder.

Roy died in 2002 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Clara cared for him at home with strength and love for the duration of his illness. Two years after his death, Clara moved to Boulder, Colorado to live precious years with their daughter.

Survivors include daughter, Vicki Anderson; three grandchildren, Heidi Filson, (Daemon), Paul Murray (Pearl), Kendra Zafiratos (Matthew) and four great-grandchildren, Lars Filson, Clara and Sadie Murray, Ian Zafiratos and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and their families. Clara, beloved by all her family and friends, treasured them as well. Gatherings were filled with the joy and laughter that she was known to inspire.

Clara Caroline Young is buried with Roy Milton Young in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to Tru Community Care, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO, 80026 (TruCare.org) honoring their great care.
