Askew, Dr. Curtis

D. Curtis Askew, D.D., died at home in Duck Hill, MS on Sunday, August 6. He was born in Sardis, MS on December 27, 1921 to JJ and Mollie Askew. Dr. Askew attended Mississippi College, New Orleans Baptist Seminary, and UC Berkeley. He married Mary Lee Trenor of Houston, MS. As missionaries, they moved to Hiroshima, Japan in 1949 and later to Tokyo. Curtis founded 2 churches in Mississippi as a college student and 6 in Japan during 25 years there. He pastored Japanese churches during his subsequent 20 years in Hawaii.

Curtis and Mary Lee retired to Albuquerque. After Mary Lee's death, Curtis was an 88-year-old groom when he married Jewel Proctor. They had 7 blissful years together. Dr. Askew was an avid golfer, with 6 holes-in-one.

He is survived by his wife, Jewel Askew of Duck Hill, MS; daughter, Melinda Walsh (Rick) of Albuq; son, Ken Askew (Allison) of Novato, CA; grandsons Trenor, Gerald, Kendrick and Cameron Askew of California, Austen Walsh (Catalina) of Albuquerque, and Lee Walsh (Maritza) of Mass. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 65 years, Mary Lee, and son Jerry.
