Curtis Kidwell Obituary
Kidwell, Curtis

Curtis Kidwell, born April 16, 1928 in Mineral Wells TX, has passed on to meet his Savior, Jesus Christ. He passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016, with family at his bedside. His loving daughter, Faye Kidwell Valdiviez, and husband, Bob "Val" cared for him in their home in Albuquerque NM, until his passing. Curtis was a med tech in the Army's Medical Corp while in Korea and was very proud to have served his country. He was a Mineral Wells High School teacher, teaching biology, music, and English, and was a music minister in several Baptist churches there. After moving his family to Albuquerque in 1959, he taught English at Taft Middle School and then Kennedy Middle School. He was a beloved teacher and his students never forgot his teaching techniques and understanding of young teenagers. Students came to visit him as adults many years later to thank him for putting them on the road to a good education, as well as good character.

Curtis's joy in life was his faith in Jesus Christ. He studied the Scriptures faithfully and walked the narrow path of a true believer. His pride and joy were also his four children who always looked to him for wisdom and guidance. He gave of himself over and over to make his children happy and safe. He loved the mountains of New Mexico and the western culture of his beloved Texas. He would always be a Texan first. He loved his Dallas Cowboys and never considered being disloyal to them in their lean years. His favorite activity was being able to eat out, leaving the dishes and clean-up for someone else. Curtis was a happy soul who was encourager, friend, and mentor.

He is survived by his brother John Edward Kidwell and wife Betty of Farmers Branch, TX; his loving children, Faye Valdiviez and husband Bob "Val" with their children, Matthew Valdiviez and wife Kim, Adam (great-grandson, Isaac), and Sarah Franklin; son, Jerry Kidwell and wife Donna with their children Angela and husband Ryan Conlon (great- grandchildren, Kaelyn and Tyler), Amy Hughen and husband Drew (great-grandchildren, Emery and Andrew), Abby Hall and husband Austin; son, Jeff Kidwell and wife Michelle (grandchildren, Taylor and Jaden, and step-grandson Nate Gutierrez and wife Corinne (great-grandchildren, Keira and Milo); and daughter Jenny Kidwell.

Curtis was a member at Hoffmantown Baptist Church in Albuquerque, Moberly Baptist Church in Longview, TX, and Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. The family will gather in Dallas, TX to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, it is the family's wish that gifts be made either to Broadmoor Baptist Church, 4110 Youree Dr., Shreveport LA 71105 or to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews at their website. Arrangements by Direct Funerals, 2919 4th St. NW. ABQ. 505-343-8008.
