Nitz, Dain Gene

Shortly after New Year's a bright, beautiful light slowly faded from this world. Born on a spring day in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Dain Gene Nitz, beloved son, brother, father, friend, Navy Vet/Air National Guard Reservist left us January 5th, 2017 after an illness/hospitalization for a better place with our Lord in Heaven. He was 44 years old. Dain was loved by many for his sense of humor, crazy antics and ability to make anyone feel comfortable no matter the circumstance. He was loving, gentle, kind and he regularly described himself as a "simple man." Everyone who knew Dain, knew him as a man they were fiercely proud of and a man that many just wanted to be around because of his lovability. Dain loved football, specifically the Nebraska Cornhuskers (Go Blackshirts!) and the Dallas Cowboys. He knew the game/rules for both college and the NFL very well and wasn't afraid to share it with you! He loved cooking & having a great time with those he loved. He was a great Dad and loved his boys tremendously.

He is survived by his two sons, Auston (14 yrs) and Thayer (nine yrs), his Father Gene (Cheri), his sisters Cimala Nitz-Theobald, Toni Harstad (husband Eric), aunts/uncles, cousins, a nephew and two nieces. He also leaves behind many friends, Navy buddies and Air National Guardsmen.

He is preceded in death by his Mother, Ilona M Nitz, his Aunt Brenda and Grandparents on both sides Nitz/Wiley.

Dain's service will be held on Friday, January 13th 2017 at the American Legion Post 49 at 11005 Central Ave NE at 11:30 am in the large hall. Lunch will be served after the service. Interment at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM will be the following Friday, time TBD. In lieu of flowers please send donations to
