Daniel Hernandez



Daniel Jose Hernandez left this world on November 30, 2017, at his home in Wesley Chapel, Florida. He was born in Farmington, NM on September 28, 1962 and he was an Albuquerque resident until 1992. Dan graduated from Manzano High School in 1980. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Mexico in 1985. Dan worked as a laboratory technician at UNM from 1989 to 1992. He was offered a position with the Shriners Hospital for Children, in Tampa, Florida where he was employed from 1992 to 2006 as a Biological Scientist II. After his division closed in 2006, Dan worked for MiMedx Group and was later employed at BioMedTech Laboratories in Tampa, Florida. He co-authored 12 scientific publications and was a co-inventor of US Patent No 6,565,960 Polymer Composite Compositions. Dan was an excellent scientist and enjoyed knowing that his work was advancing biomedical science and patient treatment.

Dan enjoyed many hobbies: he was a train collector, a poet, and he loved building and flying model airplanes.

Dan was deeply loved and cherished by his surviving parents, family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Blas and Rosalia Hernandez; his sister, Anna Fontanez, her husband Israel, daughter Michelle, sons John and Joseph Fontanez; sister, Gloria Alfero, her son Jason Garduno and daughters Angelina Garduno and Madeline Alfero; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his niece, Angela Fontanez.

A celebration of Dan's life, a memorial mass will be held on February 23, 2018 at 9 a.m. at the Shrine of Saint Bernadette, 11509 Indian School Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE at 10:30 a.m.
