Fenton, David Edmund

In Memoriam

David Edmund Fenton

Dave died November 14, 2016 of heart failure. Born on October 23, 1937 in Salem, New Jersey to Edmund and Marie (Williams) Fenton, Dave was raised in the Salem â€" Penns Grove area, graduating from Salem High School in 1955. He attended Whittier College on a football scholarship, earning a Bachelors Degree in Business.

After college, he played in the semi pros and briefly for the Los Angeles Rams. Dave then went into business working for US Gypsum, taking him and his family to Greeley, Colorado. He later managed a lumberyard, leading to his own construction company that took him to Albuquerque, New Mexico, then Riverside, California and, finally, back to New Mexico. Dave loved working with his hands, whether it was building pre-stressed concrete structures, roofing, gardening or (dreaming of) playing football.

Ever the advocate of the underdog, he was always ready to lend a hand to a neighbor and take in the abandoned pet. He invested himself in his children, taking great pride in their accomplishments. He is remembered fondly driving down long ribbons of highway with an unlit pipe in his mouth (re)telling epic stories and giving golden nuggets of advice to his passenger. Ever the practical joker, his sense of humor is the enduring memory for all that met him.

Dave is survived by his children Douglas Richard (Ann, grandchildren Megan Marie and Alan Jamison) Denise Elizabeth (Peter Adkison) and Jennifer Linn (grandchildren Christopher Carl, Scott Allen, Rebecca Ann).

A memorial service honoring his last request is planned for sunset (5:30) on Friday, March 31, 2017 atop Sandia Peak. Additional details may be obtained by contacting
