David Gallegos

May 13, 1960 - May 13, 2020

David was known for his gentle, kind and loving way. He never had an angry or unkind word to say about anyone or anything. David, along with his brother and sister, grew up in the South Valley. He and his brother made up their own language where they could converse with each other without anyone knowing what was being said. His brother, Phillip passed away in 2000. David excelled in all his scholastic subjects. His IQ was measured at genius level ( few years later it would become a very sad day when he received a severe head injury). He entered high school at St. Pius and later transferred to and graduated from Rio Grande High School. David's father passed away when David was 14 years old so David and his mom shared a special bond that will never be forgotten or broken. He also shared a very close relationship with his stepfather and called him his "bro". David also shared close relationships with his nieces and nephews, he loved to be called "uncle" and spend time with his family. David and his sister, Charmaigne Riehl, had a loving relationship and although they lived far apart they stayed in contact and spoke regularly. David's legacy will be that he loved his family dearly. So it is with deep sadness that we say farewell to our "gentle giant" and "earth angel". Rest in peace dear David, you will be loved for eternity. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 22, 2020 from 8:30-9:30 am at Garcia Mortuary ~ Chapel of Angels, on the corner of 8th and Iron (Masks are required), with burial to follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. David had a courteous manner that was sincere and warm. I'll miss him and his always welcoming smile. He had a slightly impish quality to his smile that gave a sparkle. Goodbye, gentle friend.

David was a kind generous man and steadfast resident in our multifamily community for many years. We will miss his participation in social hour, his dry humor, and concern for his fellow residents
