David Kammer Obituary
David J. Kammer, age 71 passed away June 29, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. A resident of Albuquerque since 1975, David was a compassionate family member and friend, always ready to share ideas about gardens, birds, music as well as interesting details of New Mexico's historic buildings, bridges, theaters and roadways, especially the story of Route 66.
Recently David was honored with the State of New Mexico's Heritage Preservation Lifetime Achievement Award for "groundbreaking work in public history which strongly influenced the course of preservation in New Mexico for decades and continues to do so today."
David is survived by his wife, Jeanne Whitehouse; daughter, Frances Peterson (husband, Louis Taylor) of Albuquerque; daughter, Ellen Peterson (partner, Brian Hartley) of Wailuku, Hawaii; daughter, Cathy Arlowe (husband, Rob) of Albuquerque; other family members include four grandchildren, Barrett, Addie, Lucy, Olive of Albuquerque and extended family members, Holly Harrison, Phil Peterson, Alex Peterson. David is also survived by his sister, Susan Gura (husband, Robert) of Rumson, New Jersey, as well as the loving friends and caregivers from HavenCare Assisted Living in Albuquerque.

My deepest sympathy go out to Dave's family. I took courses with Dave with the Southwest Institute. Although I live in New York, it was because of Dave that I fell in love with the southwest. I learned a tremendous amount about the areas we visited. He made history come alive. His contributions made such a positive effect on many.
