David Martin Ericson Jr. Obituary
Ericson, David Martin Jr.

David Martin Ericson, Jr., child of God, completed his baptismal journey on April 13, 2016 at the age of 83. Beloved by his family and friends, he was a man of faith with the heart of a champion who lived a life of service.

He was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania September 15, 1932. A scientist, thinker, and explorer by nature, he completed a BA in chemical engineering at Pennsylvania State University, his MS from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and his PhD in nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan. He retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1975, from Sandia National Laboratory in 1988, and from the private sector in 1995.

His best career and his highest calling was to love and support his family and to help care for anyone - and everyone - who crossed his path. He married his beloved wife Ruth Marion Elder on April 5, 1953. Dave spent a lifetime serving the Lutheran church in many congregations and in hundreds of roles. He was called on often, and generally first, to provide leadership and direction on projects big and small. He and his beloved wife Ruth spent 42 years as part of Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp in Hillside, CO, where he became "Dad," Papa," and "Grampa" to thousands of young people from across the country. Dave volunteered for Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity for more than 20 years, both on the build site and in the boardroom. Until his death he served on the board of Manzano del Sol, Good Samaritan Village.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; daughter Lisa Shea and husband Mike; daughter Kris Ericson; daughter Ede Ericson; granddaughter Karly Granzen and husband John; granddaughter Cheyenne Cardell; great-grandson Roi Martin Granzen; brother Leif Ericson and wife Peggy, as well as many other family members and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Celebration of Life Service of Word and Sacrament will be held on April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church, 4800 All Saints Rd NW. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp at
