David Rinden Kendall Obituary
Kendall, David Rinden

David Rinden Kendall died May 29, 2016. He was born in Marshalltown, IA August 29, 1931 to Doris and Wilbur Kendall. He grew up in Marshalltown and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1949. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he served for four years. He married Shirley Erickson on June 22, 1957, and she was his loving wife for nearly 59 years. When he returned from the Navy, he attended the University of Iowa studying electrical engineering, and earned a Bachelor's degree in 1960. He then moved to Albuquerque, NM to work for Sandia National Laboratories, and attended UNM. He earned his Master's Degree in 1965. He was a staff member for 32 years at Sandia Labs, retiring in 1992.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Kendall; a son, John Kendall and wife Lynn and their son David; and a daughter, Darcy Emerson and husband Jay and their two sons, Scott and Sam.

David loved and supported his family and was always there to help when needed. He especially enjoyed times when the whole family celebrated and vacationed together. David lived a long, healthy and active life. In his younger years, he built two sailboats, and enjoyed sailing and camping with family and friends. After retiring, he enjoyed golfing with a group of ex-Sandians on the city courses. Dave and Shirley loved traveling. They took many car trips throughout the U.S. taking the back roads and stopping often to play golf and meet the people. In later years, they made many friends traveling to amazing places with Sun Tours.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, 2:00 p.m., at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte NE. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Please visit our online guestbook for Dave at
