Johnson, Derek Edward

Derek Edward

Johnson

Was born Oct. 9, 1993 and died April 13, 2016, age 22.

He is beloved of his parents Laura Marie Johnson and Carl Edward "Ed" Johnson, who have been divorced since Derek was young. Born in Albuquerque, Derek graduated from Sandia High School, where he was on several sports teams. Currently he was at UNM working on a Bachelor of Science degree toward becoming a Nurse. He greatly desired to help other people medically. Derek worked at several local restaurants, an automotive shop, and channel 13.

He is survived by his loving mother and father; his sister Marianna; grandparents, cousins, and aunts and uncles, and his dog Stitch - all will greatly miss him. He much enjoyed his many friends, who will miss his outgoing friendliness, humor, generosity, and loving spirit.

His hobbies included, time outdoors in nature, weight lifting and fitness nutrition, skate boarding, and enthusiastic telling of stories. Derek loved to learn about UFOs and aliens. His last months were spent in great pain from physical injuries he endured many years. He was on a spiritual quest and now is at peace in the hereafter.

Derek's family thanks Steve Jungbluth who was a wonderful mentor and friend to Derek for many years. Also, the family gratefully acknowledges the many medical professionals who helped Derek throughout his life and the APD who aided Derek. Derek had considered joining the military or police.

A memorial service hosted by his mother will be held at 6:30pm on Friday, April 29th at the Center for Spiritual Living, 2801 Louisiana NE, Rev. Kylie Renner will lead the service. In lieu of flowers, his mother suggests donations to organizations that help prevent suicide and support the bereaved, such as www.sharingnhealing.org and www.sosabq.com.

Another memorial service hosted by his father will be held at the Desert Springs Church, 705 Osuna Rd. NE. For information, contact Harold Hamilton at French Funerals.

Derek's ashes will become dust in the wind somewhere out there under the stars.
