Dolores Archuleta Mares



Dolores (Doddie) Mares was born Apr 12, 1935 and died Dec. 17, 2017, due to pulmonary fibrosis. She was predeceased by her parents Lucas and Agnes Archuleta; her stepmother Esther Blea Archuleta; her brother Rudy J. Archuleta (Violet); sisters, Connie Culp (Charles), Mary Archuleta and Marta Archuleta; in-laws Jake & Julia Mares; and grandson Gabrial Mares.

She is survived by husband of 64 yrs Sam A. Mares; daughter Frances R. Soltis (Paul Nelson); son Mark S. Mares (Alice Vasilic); granddaughters Ranae Soltis (Tyler Brown), Janette Soltis (David Hoffstetter); grandson Mark N. Mares and his mother Yolanda Mares; great-grandchildren Matai Gutierrez-Mares and Emilynn Brown.

Doddie graduated from Santa Fe High in 1954, attended Diablo Valley College, CNM, and UNM, completing three years majoring in Child Development and Nutrition.

She was a member of Boys Club Auxiliary, FHA, GI Forum, IMAGE, LULAC, Mana, Mujeres de LULAC, Mujeres Unidas de Michigan, NALEO & SCS Wives Organization. She was awarded the annual recognition Brindis Award by Mana & served as President of Boys Club Auxiliary, FHA & SCS Wives Organization. She & Sam co-hosted nat'l, state & local conventions & conferences for some of the aforementioned organizations plus the Southwest Center for Science & Engineering at UNM. They received a certificate of recognition from the Secretary of State for their anniversary & the mayor for community service.

Doddie and Sam traveled over the world & the U.S., taking over 30 cruises and tours. She loved to go camping, played bridge, and spending time at their cabin in Jemez. She played bridge for over 50 years; her partners were Felo Cortes, Genara Griego, Pilo Llamas, and Amelia Smith.

Doddie was a loving and caring person and will be missed by her family, friends, and dogitas, Abbi, Panchito, Pepito, Pinta, and Rexi.

Services will be Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 10am at Riverside Funeral Home Chapel, 225 San Mateo NE. Reception to follow at Hyatt Regency Downtown, 301 Tijeras NW
