Donald Ivan Kuster, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a pet lover. A gardener, a rock hound, a traveler, a train-spotter. Steadfast, courageous, loyal, honest.

Donald Ivan Kuster, 75, died of complications of esophageal cancer on Monday, July 25th, at Gentiva Hospice in Albuquerque, NM. Don was born on November 28, 1940, in Buffalo, NY, to F. Kenneth and Alice Kuster.

He graduated from Buffalo Technical High School and in 1961 he moved to St. Paul, MN, to attend Macalester College, where he earned his Bachelor of Business in 1965. That same year on June 18 he married Victoria Yarger, and spent the next 51 years in partnership with her. Don worked in research and development at West Publishing Company from 1965 till his retirement in 2002. Don and Vicky spent the majority of their married life in Burnsville, MN, where they lived from 1970 to 2006, at which time they retired to Albuquerque, NM. From his adolescent years on Don was very active in the Presbyterian Church, USA; he gave significantly of his time and love to both the Presbyterian Church of the Apostles in Burnsville and La Mesa Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. Don was an erstwhile Explorer Scout Leader, and in later years a member of the Train Collectors Association, Sandia Mountain Retreat, and a Compadre of Ghost Ranch Conference Center. He was also an avid and savvy investor, as well as an enthusiastic amateur photographer and a dedicated environmentalist.

Don is survived by his wife Victoria (Yarger) Kuster of Albuquerque, NM; son Neil Kuster (Min Liu) of Philadelphia, PA; daughter Laura Kuster (Ian Paul) of Ruidoso, NM; four grandchildren, Owen and Annabelle Kuster of Philadelphia and Anson and Lilia Paul of Ruidoso; brother Russel Kuster of Mt. Zion, IL; and sister Carol Mann of Ocala, FL.

A memorial service will be held at La Mesa Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque on Monday, August 1st, at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to Ghost Ranch Conference Center in Abiquiu, NM, or the La Mesa Presbyterian Church Arts Academy.
