Reid, Donald William

Donald William Reid, CPA, was born June 7, 1928 in Sycamore, Illinois and lived on the family farm and attended high school in Genoa, Illinois. He passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Donald came to New Mexico in 1948, forsaking the mild winters of northern Illinois for the brutal winters of the southwest, after a road trip with his cousin John in 1947, when they toured the western United States. He attended the University of DeKalb for two years studying veterinary medicine and transferred to the University of New Mexico where he studied business and played a lot of golf. There he met, Jewell Davis whom he married in 1952. He worked at Sandia National Labs for 2 years then joined Linden, Burke & Stevenson for 3 years and then opened an office just off the plaza in Old Town in 1958. He moved to new digs near Washington and Central in 1966 with his crew of John Parker, Mac Collins, Shirley Paul and others. Later they began sharing an office with Dan Mackie & Co. In 1983 they merged firms and became Mackie Reid & Company, CPA's, and moved to Carlisle and Indian school. In 2004 he officially retired leaving the firm in the hands of Dan Mackie CPA and Jim Van Der Geest CPA.

In 1980 Donald and Jewell began to tour the world. They took planes, trains, automobiles and boats to Australia, Singapore, Hawaii, Germany, England, France, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Russia, China, Africa, Japan, Tibet, Mongolia, outer Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Canada eh, and most of the United States. Traveling had come to a halt in the last few years due to health problems but Donald had begun to collect cruise brochures in the past few months.

Donald was a die-hard Lobo Basketball fan for over 67 years and just this year he stopped going to the games. He enjoyed having Sunday breakfast with family members and friends for the past 30 years at various restaurants around town.
