Donna Whinery Obituary
Whinery, Donna

Donna Whinery, 83, passed away August 3, 2016. A resident of Albuquerque since 1936, Donna was a retired school teacher from the Albuquerque School system. She taught mostly at Mark Twain, Zuni and Cleveland.

In her youth she was an avid horse rider and was rodeo queen runner up at the NM State Fair.

When she retired, she took up gardening until she couldn't garden any more. Her vegetables were prized by many. She sold her excess chicken eggs for years.

She was an avid quilter belonging to many organizations, including Sweet Charities, the community service part of NM Quilters Association. One year she made 52 quilts, a quilt a week, for the children's hospital! She has hundreds of quilted projects of full size bed quilts, wall hangings and place-mats scattered across the USA. She also crocheted many children's hats for newborns.

In her latter years she enjoyed adult coloring books and word puzzles.

Donna leaves behind three children: Alan Duhon in Albuquerque, Tom Duhon in OKC and Vicky Stormo in Seattle. She has five grandchildren, Jimmy Gilbert, Ashley and Trevor Duhon, Chad and Trisha Stormo, and six great-grandchildren and her beloved dog Rosie.

A celebration of life will be held later. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to New Mexico Animal Friends.
