Smith, Dorothy Marie

Dorothy Marie Smith, 79, of Greenville, Texas, died Monday, September 5, 2016 at Legend Healthcare in Greenville. A memorial service will be at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Greenville Bible Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville, Texas. Rev. Jim Corbet will officiate.

Mrs. Smith was born September 28, 1936 at Knob Noster, Missouri, the daughter of the late Annie Miardex Lane and Harry Carl Lane. Elementary and secondary school were completed at Knob Noster, Missouri. She graduated from the diploma nursing program at Kansas City General hospital, Kansas City, Missouri in 1956, and acquired her BSN at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas in 1976.

In 1953, Mrs. Smith began her career in nursing and Kansas City General Hospsital. After an interval in her work to mentor (along with her husband) three sons, she continued her career, working at Presbyterian Hospital, Albuquerque, New Mexico, High Plains Baptist Hospital, WTSU, St. Anthony's Hospital, and retired after 19 years at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. She and Ed moved to Greenville, Texas in 2007 after 38 years in Amarillo.

Mrs. Smith married Edward Jenkins Smith, Jr. of Prairie Village, Kansas on June 27, 1956 in Kansas City, Missouri. They have three sons; Edward Jenkins, III, Bradley Frank and Randal Montgomery.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents and sister Bessie Anita Lane. She is survived by her husband, Edward Jenkins Smith, Jr. and her sons, Edward Jenkins Smith, III, Fayetteville, NC, granddaughter Chelsey LeWynn Smith, Charlotte NC; Bradley Frank Smith and wife, Karen, Greenville, TX, grandson Shayne Avary Smith; Randal Montgomery Smith and wife, Donna, grandson Jared Patrick Smith, Fernandina Beach, FL; brothers Harry Lester Lane and wife, Alice and John Merrit lane, Knob Noster, MO; sister Joyce Ann Lane Dixon and husband, Monty, Springfield, MO; nieces Margaret Ann Lane Charrette and husband, Tom, Knob Noster, MO, Tracy Dixon Patton and husband, Rick, Springfield, MO, Gayle Dixon Garrison and husband, Jerry, sons Josiah and Tyrel, Russellville, MO.
